Frequently Asked Question
PC's
For Windows we highly recommend MicroSIP https://www.microsip.org/downloads
(the full version) it includes a great little feature that is needed for access to our system - port knocking. For Microsips Port Knocking to work, you will need to modify MicroSIPs INI file by hand, in default installs, this file is C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\MicroSIP\microsip.ini, open in wordpad, then fill in the portKnockerHost and portKnockerPorts values as per your Welcome Email, save and exit, run MicroSIP and setup your account and preferences.
For Macs, SIP clients such as Telephone apparently work, although we understand the free version is heavily limited by features and call time limits, so you may wish to compare it to the free version of Zoiper, although it too is feature limited, there appears no time limits. As for port knocking, Google tells us there is a knock client for MacOS, we have no experience with Macs, so you'll need to spend some quality time on Google to configure it.
For Linux, we have a range of clients available to us, linphone, enigma, Zoiper, even MicroSIP under WINE, to name but a few, as for port knocking, there is knock, or you could easily roll your own in bash or perl.
Mobile Devices
We really only recommend two Apps, but given Zoiper for mobile is like its PC version rather limited in features in the free version, we suggest first checking out the popular, totally free and fully featured, Grandstream Wave App.
We can also supply our users with a QR code that will automatically configure your Wave App, to make it super fast and simple all you need to do is scan the below QR code to install the Wave App, install the Port Knocker App, and scan the QR code we send you, click confirm and you're done.
Due to incompleteness, privacy, and security, we are unable to offer quick setup with Zoiper
There exists Mobile Apps for Port Knocking, some of which can automatically start your softphone after it knocks, see https://helpdesk.ausics.net/kb/faq.php?id=16 for more information.
Grandstream Wave for Android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grandstream.wave
Grandstream Wave for iOS - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/grandstream-wave/id1029274043
Zoiper for Andoid - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zoiper.android.app
Zoiper for iOS - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/zoiper-lite-voip-soft-phone/id438949960
Using those Apps, you retain control of your SIP privacy, unlike Counterpaths BRIA who require your SIP credentials before you can even download their App, and a reminder as a result of this breach of privacy, the use of BRIA on our network is forbidden!
