Frequently Asked Question
ims.ausics.net is a private XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) formerly know as Jabber, instant messaging service, it is not linked to any other servers or networks.
Although it is a private server, ims is currently in public access mode, thus allowing anyone to create an account automatically from within their XMPP/Jabber client/App to enjoy private communications amongst friends, and free of advertising.
Using the client/App to create an account means that unlike more popular social media instant messaging services, there is no website sign up forms where you have to give a bunch of your personal details, this systems process asks for only a username and password, some clients might request your Name and Email address, that should be it, it cares not about where you live, your phone details, how old you are, when you last ate, and it sure as heck doesn't think of ways of how to pry on your private messages and target you with spam or other rot.
You should note that your connection IP address is logged against your username when you log-in, just like everywhere else on the Net we need to be able to deal with any abuse (we've been running this for a couple years now and had zero problems). The server is located in, and subject to, the laws of the State of Queensland, Australia.
Bots and spammers wont be tolerated
Although there is no moderation, we do currently have some geographically located script kiddie IP blockings.
We do have anti DoS rules, so if you get your username or password wrong and keep smashing the reconnect to login, you might be blocked for 24 hours.
The service is provided as-is, with no guarantees.
